Trauma, Surgical Critical Care & Burns Services

Loyola University Health System (Loyola) is considered a national leader in trauma and emergency services. The trauma, surgical critical care & burns practice provides comprehensive services for patients of all ages with critical illness or injury. Pediatric critical care physicians provide specialized care to critically ill infants and children. In addition, trauma and critical care specialists often work with other medical specialties, including internal medicine, plastic surgery, wound care, orthopaedic surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, neurology, ophthalmology, otolaryngology and psychiatry. Areas of emphasis in surgical critical care include ventilatory management, hemodynamic support, nutrition, and comprehensive treatment of severe surgical infections.

Burn specialists treat thermal injuries, electrical burns, chemical injury, frostbite, inhalation injury, complex soft-tissue infections and toxic epidermal necrolysis (scalded skin syndrome). Loyola’s Burn Center is one of the busiest and largest in Illinois and has one of the most modern facilities in the Midwest.
