Surgery Services
General
surgeons at Loyola University Health System (Loyola)
perform all routine general surgical procedures, including
routine colorectal procedures. They also possess special
expertise in breast surgery, surgical treatment of burns,
cancer surgery and transplantation surgery. General
surgery includes the sections of colon and rectal surgery,
endocrine surgery, pediatric surgery, surgical endoscopy
and minimally invasive surgery and surgical oncology.

Services
Colon
and Rectal Surgery
Surgeons in this section treat patients with complications
of inflammatory bowel disease or unusual gastrointestinal
cancers in need of specialized surgical interventions.
Endocrine
Surgery
Among the conditions treated are thyroid nodules, hyperthyroidism,
thyroid cancer, hyperparathyroidism, familial endocrine
disease, neuroendocrine tumors of the pancreas and adrenal
disorders.
Pediatric
Surgery
Pediatric surgeons work in conjunction with Loyola’s
other pediatric subspecialists to provide specialized
surgical treatment of newborns and children.
Surgical
Endoscopy and Minimally Invasive Surgery
Minimally invasive procedures performed include laparoscopically
assisted banding for obesity and laparoscopically assisted
colon resection.
Surgical
Oncology
A multidisciplinary team evaluates and treats patients
with cancers, including of the breast, liver, pancreas,
endocrine system and gastrointestinal tract.
Research
Surgeons
at Loyola are studying the effects of shock on organ
system functions, causes of thyroid and parathyroid
tumors and wound healing.
