Aeromedical Hanger
Aeromedical
Hangar

Loyola Lifestar,
the aeromedical
transportation service of Loyola University Medical
Center, is housed in a 60-by-60 foot, radiant-heated
hangar adjacent to the hospital's Emergency
Care Facility. The new hangar was built in 1994
to protect Loyola Lifestar from the elements when not
deployed. Additionally, a new in-ground 10,000-gallon
fuel system provides the Lifestar crew with a more economical
and efficient way to fuel the aircraft.
The
"flying emergency room" is available
24-hours each day within a 150-mile radius of
the Medical Center. Offering much more than speed,
Loyola Lifestar is staffed by a highly trained
flight nurse and a flight paramedic who can perform
advanced procedures such as hemodynamic monitoring,
intra-aortic balloon pump management and electronic
fetal monitoring. While trauma cases make up the
largest group of Lifestar's transports, cases
such as cardiac, medical/pediatrics, high-risk
obstetrics, non-trauma related head bleeds, and
burns together make up more than two-thirds of
Lifestar's patients.
