| On Nov. 19, 2009, the Illinois Department of Public Health released the Illinois Hospital Report Card on its Web site. These are among the Report Card's major findings about Loyola University Medical Center:-- 71 percent of Loyola patients say they would definitely recommend the hospital to friends and family. The Illinois state average is 65 percent.-- Loyola used recommended treatments 96.3 percent of the time for heart attack care and 97.6 percent of the time for heart failure care. These rates are higher than state and national averages. Loyola used recommended treatments 88.3 percent of the time for pneumonia care. We have implemented new processes for pneumonia and influenza vaccinations for patients, with recently improved results.-- On surgical care safety measures, the percentage of Loyola patients receiving recommended medicines at the right time ranged from 96 percent to 100 percent.-- It should be noted that patient safety and mortality measures in the Report Card have not been adjusted for individual patient risk of mortality or severity of illness. Rates should not be used to compare hospitals. As an academic medical center, Loyola treats sicker and more challenging patients who are referred to us from other hospitals.
