| LOYOLA EARNS HIGHEST HONOR FOR NURSING EXCELLENCE |
| Coveted Magnet designation granted to health system |
| MAYWOOD, Ill. -- Loyola University Health System (LUHS) today announced that it received Magnet designation for its hospital and outpatient clinics. LUHS is now among the five percent of health care organizations with this elite designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), an affiliate of the American Nurses Association. “The Magnet distinction is a testament to the quality care our nurses provide to our patients every day,” said Paula Hindle, MSN, MBA, RN, vice president and chief nurse executive. “Loyola is honored to accept this designation and grateful for our nurses who represent the best in the profession.”LUHS was notified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center on Sept. 16 after an application process that spanned more than two years. “Our road to Magnet was a true team effort involving extensive preparation,” said Deborah Jasovsky, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, associate chief nurse executive and Magnet program director. “Nurses from all areas of the health system rolled up their sleeves to showcase Loyola’s quality nursing program and bring this award to our organization.”The Magnet Recognition Program™ provides consumers with a benchmark to measure the quality of care that they can expect to receive at an organization. The program is based on quality factors and standards of nursing practice. These factors are known as the 14 Forces of Magnetism, and they are evaluated by ANCC to determine if a hospital is deserving of Magnet Recognition. The forces collectively represent a professional environment guided by a strong visionary nurse leader who supports advancement and excellence in nursing practice. “Loyola possesses all of these characteristics, which affords our patients the highest level of care,” said Jasovsky. “This care is grounded in sound scientific research, professionalism and strong leadership.”LUHS will next seek redesignation for Magnet in 2013.###
