LOYOLA TO OFFER FREE PROSTATE CANCER SCREENINGS AS PART OF PROSTATE CANCER AWARENESS MONTHS IN SEPTEMBER
Screenings will include blood tests and exams by Loyola urologists, assistance with follow-up care if needed
MAYWOOD, Ill. -- More than 39,000 American men will die this year of prostate cancer. Early detection can dramatically increase a man’s chances of survival.

Men should be screened for prostate cancer annually after age 50 -- even earlier if they are African Americans, who have the highest rate of the disease and the lowest rate of survival.

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month and to help fight the deadly disease, Loyola University Health System will be offering free prostate cancer screenings. The screenings will include blood tests and exams by urologists. Participants will be notified of the results of their blood tests by mail.

If your test is abnormal, Loyola medical staff will contact you by phone to help arrange follow-up care.

The screenings will take place from 3-7 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009 at the Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center, which is on the campus of Loyola University Medical Center, 2160 S. First Ave., Maywood.

Appointment times are limited and registration is required. Call (888) LUHS-888 to register. Parking is available in the parking lot of the Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center. Valet and self-parking are $4. The screening is not recommended for men currently under the care of an urologist.
